About snowmonkeydaytrips.com
This site covers one day out: the trip to the wild Japanese macaques that bathe in a hot spring at Jigokudani, in the mountains of Nagano. Most of that decision comes down to where you start. The best-known tour leaves from Nagano Station, not from Tokyo, and the coach from Tokyo needs up to three and a half hours each way. We put facts like these next to every tour.
Who checks the tours
Patrick Kühne, an independent travel publisher in Markkleeberg near Leipzig, Germany, researches and writes these pages. He runs a small group of guides to day tours and tickets, each limited to one place or one trip; this one is limited to the snow monkeys of Jigokudani.
What we check on every snow monkey tour
For each tour we read the listing on the booking platform and note where it starts and ends, how you get there from Tokyo, how long you have at the park, and whether the park ticket and lunch are part of the price. Where a listing says nothing, our tables say "Not stated" instead of guessing. Reviews on this site are quoted from the booking platform, shortened at most, and critical ones appear next to positive ones.
How this site earns money
The booking buttons lead to GetYourGuide, and for tours that only Viator sells, to Viator. If you book through one of them, the platform pays snowmonkeydaytrips.com a commission out of its margin. The tables are sorted by number of reviews, and no operator can pay for a better position.
Where the season information comes from
Opening hours, the forest path from Kanbayashi Onsen and the months with snow and bathing monkeys follow the visitor information published for Jigokudani Yaen-koen, cross-checked with travel guides. Prices, ratings and review counts load automatically from the booking platforms. Everything else was last checked in November 2026.
What this site cannot do
We cannot promise that the monkeys will sit in the pool on your day, and we do not run tours or speak for any operator. Pickup times, routes and cancellation rules are set by the operator, and your booking confirmation is what counts.
